PechaKucha Night, Vancouver
PechaKucha is a global series of live events held worldwide where people can meet, inspire and get inspired, based on a format that is fast-paced and fun. Meharoona Ghani was invited to speak her thoughts in 20 slides X 20 seconds. Except she spoke with a twist – her poetic spoken word sort of way. Enjoy!
Meharoona is an engaged British Columbian who takes serious issues and approaches them in novel ways that promote understanding, intercultural dialogue and shows a way out of the polarization that might otherwise exist. She's a compelling public speaker with a theoretical and practical understanding of the situation on the ground. At SFU, she participated on dialogues on Islamophobia and on Faith and Social Justice - she has also been one of our community partners in her role with Reel Causes.
Meharoona Ghani generously agreed to be the keynote speaker for our WorkBC Self Employment Showcase event on March 16th 2016. She warmly welcomed the audience and asked them questions about themselves that helped them feel at ease and raised awareness about diversity. In her remarks, she was open and vulnerable about her journey to become self employed as a woman of color and someone with a hidden disability. Her frank and inspiring words and visuals captured the audience and motivated them to consider being self employed no matter what their life circumstances. Thank you very much Meharoona for your hard work and energy for our event.
Meharoona delivered a thought-provoking, touching presentation, and got the audience of would-be entrepreneurs very engaged. She shared her personal stories of struggle and triumph in such a way that everyone could relate to. She had deep insights as to the meaning of living out your calling, and what it means, on pragmatic and spiritual levels, to take the courageous step of starting a business. The way Meharoona shows her vulnerability and strength, her convictions and tenacity, are inspiring to her audience, and everyone leaves the room still thinking about her important message. Meharoona is a changemaker, and I feel honoured and privileged to know her.
Meharoona Ghani is a very impactful, passionate, and interesting public speaker. She brought a wonderful combination of depth and breadth of experience, interesting ideas, and compelling presentation style to two public programs that our Centre cosponsored
